Northern Cardinal - female (Cardinalis cardinalis)
Location: Kohala Coast, Big Island, Hawaii
Here she is again -- Ms. Cardinal. As I have mentioned earlier, among the regular visitors to our garden, we have only one pair of Northern Cardinals (Cardinalis cardinalis). This female Cardinal began to visit us when she was barely post-adolescent. We have enjoyed watching her grow from a gangly youngster, to the present time. These days she looks much more mature and polished.

I have seen thousands of bird pictures, this one shows character!!
She is pretty, and hopefully will bring her brood to visit you. This winter I have at least 7 pairs of Cardinals.

@ Andrew - Thank you so much. I like the gleam in her eye, myself.
@ Becky - I'm jealous of all your cardinals -- but at least I get to see them on your blog!

Beautiful shot. What a pretty birdy. Must be great to watch it grow up. :-)
@2Sweet - You've got that exactly right! Over the 12 years we've lived in our current house, we have had the pleasure of watching many generations of birds and their offspring visit our garden. We love it when the parents come around with their offspring.
