House Finch - female (Carpodacus mexicana)
Location: Kohala Coast, Big Island, Hawaii
Mrs. House Finch snatched a sunflower seed from the bird feeder and flew to a nearby tree branch to enjoy it in peace. She may not be as colorful as her mate, but we still think this female house finch is a nice looking little bird.

So do I Bobbie. I have lots of them, and even rescued a female from the snow bank this winter after she hit the window, and fell head first into the snow.

We enjoy them too - all the different varieties of finches. Odd how most of the females in the finch family look alike. Some you have to look real close to even identify them.
Hi Becky & Kathy -
I guess we all like our finches, even the more common ones. :)
