Starry Wind Hibiscus

Starry Wind Hibiscus

Ruby Tuesday

'Starry Wind' Hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis)
Location: Kohala Coast, Big Island, Hawaii

I hope people are not growing tired of all my hibiscus photos.  We have 28 varieties in our garden, and many of those are red, so they are obvious subjects for Ruby Tuesday.

This velvety red hibiscus blossom with the yellow 'star' in its throat is called Starry Wind.  It is a patented cultivar, developed by Florida plant breeder Wendy R. Bergman.  We have several of Wendy's hibiscus cultivars in our garden.  I posted a photo of the one called Candy Wind in July of this year.

I took this photo with my point-and-shoot camera, on the macro setting.  I'm quite happy with the result.   Don't tell the folks at Nikon!

That is a real beauty! I can't imagine having 28 varieties. I don't even have one!

Although it is Ruby Tuesday, the yellow is what stands out. Probably because of the contrast of the pistil (is that what it is?) seems to make the red...even more red?

Stunning as always Bobbie! Happy Ruby Tuesday!

Nice photo, Bobbie. The hibiscus that grow where you are are quite different from the ones that grow in my garden. So, no, I will never get tired of seeing yours. ;-)

Beautiful ruby red flower. And the photo doesn't seem to lose anything from not being taken with the Nikon. Lovely shot.

How could anyone ever tire of hybiscus... hybiscuses?... hybiscusi?

This one's gorgeous, though the pink one reminds me of sunny days in my grandmother's garden. She love these flowers too.

Thanks for stopping in at Maraca!

Speaking for self, I'll never tire of your hibiscus pics. They're beautiful. I only have a point and shoot and personally, I love the macro feature on it. One of these days I'll take that next step up... when I learn how to use the manual features on this one.
