Baja Fairy Duster (Calliandra californica)

Baja Fairy Duster (Calliandra californica)

Ruby Tuesday

Baja Fairy Duster (Calliandra californica)
Location: Tucson, Arizona, USA

This delicate blossom is known as the Baja Fairy Duster (Calliandra californica).  The plant has its origins in Baja California, but I photographed this one in Tucson, Arizona.  Although this shrubby plant grows wild, I was told that people sometimes add it to their gardens to attract hummingbirds.

Dear Bobbie,
always exciting to see what rare red botanic growth you are coming up with for Ruby Tuesday.
I have a fairly ordinary garden myself, but flowers have always been one main interest.
Fairy duster what a poetic name for a flower suited for Tinkerbell.

Such an unusual flower! Is it stiff or soft to the touch, I wonder.

Hi Bobbie, I like your (Baja) Fairy Duster. I think it would go good in a fairy garden.
I'm still envious of your Nikon.
If I had a Subaru Baja it could have this flower in the flower pot.
