Location: Kohala Coast, Big Island, Hawaii
I live just a few miles up the coast from Kawaihae, which is the primary freight port on the west side of Hawaii's Big Island. This is one of the routine sights along the coast where I live.
Tugboats tow freight barges back and forth daily between Hawaii's main port at Honolulu and the other islands. Most of the barges carry general cargo, but some of the barges are specialized to carry shipping containers, or livestock, or motor vehicles.

In Hawaii, even a barge against that glorious sky is a feast for the eyes!
Is it just me, or is there an awful lot of ocean between the tug and the barge?
It's a beautiful silver ocean though, so maybe the tug crew didn't want their view spoiled.

@ Mojo - Yes there is a lot of ocean between the tug and the barge -- intentionally. Once the tug leaves the port and heads out to sea, it lets out quite a bit of tow-cable between it and the barge, to prevent them from clanking into each other while traversing the open ocean swells. At the other end of the trip, as the tug nears port (and sheltered water), it "reels in" the cables, and by the time it reaches the dock, the barge is close behind it.
@ Ivar - The big waves Hawaii is famous for only occur in certain areas, and only at certain times of the year.
@ Fishing Guy - The temperature here today was 82 F (28 C) -- maybe not perfect, but not bad. ;-}
