Clark's Nutcracker  (Nucifraga columbiana)
Location:  Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado, USA

Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park is rightly famous for its stunning mountain views, but it is also a wonderful place to view and photograph birds and other wildlife.  This is a Clark's Nutcracker (Nucifraga columbiana).  As a member of the Covidae family, it is related to jays, crows, magpies and ravens, among others.  According to the Field Guide to Birds of North America, Clark's Nutcrackers feed on nuts, insects, eggs and young of other birds, lizards, carrion and small mammals.

Hi Bobbie! Wow - glad to see you back! What a good surprise to see you on my feed.

I have missed your posts on both your blogs and have thought of you often with hopes of everything going well for you.

Take care, my friend, and I hope the New Year is filled with all that's good!

Hi Kathy -

Wow, that was quick! Thanks so much for NOT unsubscribing to my feed after all this time...

2010 was an incredibly hectic year for me. I had very little free time, so I had to give up blogging for awhile. However, I did not stop taking photos, so I decided to resurrect this blog to share some of what I had photographed.

Thanks so much for your visit and your greeting. I wish you a healthy and happy 2011.

Bobbie

Hi Becky -

The day I shot the photo was the first time I had ever seen this bird, too. Now that I am spending more time in Colorado, I am making it my business to learn all about the birds and other wildlife that live in the region.
