Female Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos)
Location: Otago Peninsula, South Island, New Zealand
A few days ago I posted a photo of a male Mallard duck (Anas platyrhynchos). Here is a photo of his mate. Both were photographed in New Zealand, but this species is widely distributed around the world.

I had to scroll down to see the other photo. Both are great shots. Quack! :-D
Nice detail on this beauty
That is a really dark bill. I was wondering if she has some American Black duck in her. I have been fooled over the years by hens that are really young drakes. I think all ducks are beautiful, but the wood duck male is especially pretty..
This is the one that came to my feet when I was at Lake Taipo in the North Island. The male is more colourful.
